FO: Easy Bolero

I need some spring outerwear to wear over my tanks and dresses. I had this pale blue rib knit from fabric.com since July 2006... I had one yard for $1.94. (Yay, another stash fabric used up!) I saw this easy bolero somewhere a few years and thought I'd finally give it a try. What do you think?

With brooch (my right sleeve is not laying correctly):

Back (Hehe... I'm not sure why I'm crooked.):

This dress is not handmade... I got from BCBG back in 2005. Not bad for $2, huh? As I was trying to figure out how to make this bolero, I made some mistakes and had to cut out my serged edges.

Isn't it much prettier as a flower?

The flower isn't actually sewn yet... I was just testing it out. I'm glad I can make use of my scraps... so nothing from this fabric is getting thrown out. :) Can't decide if I want to make it a headband or a brooch or both?

I love your bolero, especially the back. Which pattern is it?

Great bolero and great price. Could you glue a pin back onto your very cute flower and then you can use it for both?

Very cute, and your serger scraps do make a pretty flower! How creative! I'd just put a pin on the back, then you can wear it as a brooch or pin it to a headband as you like.

I think Lori and I cross posted, but hey, she's got a great idea there! ;-)

That bolero is sweet! I also really like the back, it's like an edgy surprise when you turn around.

Very cute! I almost always wear a cardigan or some sort of covering over my dresses- so I am sure you will get lots of use out of your's. I like the back, it is unexpected. And good job on using up your sewing stash!

Cute! And good job refashioning that snipped off serged edge into something else. :) My shoulder droops on one side, too, thanks to hauling my son in a sling till he was 3. But I wouldn't change it for the world.

Thank you for your lovely comments!

@Manecoarse - I didn't use a pattern. It's pretty simple... I'll try to come up with a tutorial.

@Lori & KID,MD - that's exactly what I was thinking... great minds think alike. :)

@meli88a - I like the back, too! I wish I could get it to lay better though.

@Byrdie - I always wear a cardi or something, too. I need some new ones, but I'm trying not to buy any as part of my new year's resolution. If only I could knit and sew faster. :) Hmm.. maybe it's time for a Goodwill visit.

@Antoinette - Hehe.. thanks! Uh oh, I can only imagine how much droopier my shoulder will get once there are kids... this is just from carrying bags.

I am so impressed that you made this without a pattern. That is great! (Thanks for the compliments :) )

So cute, and what a great idea for your "mistakes".

Haha, oops! Like the bolero! It'd be nice for those days when you don't need a cardi, but you do need *something*.

Lovely bolero! I think boleros are great to wear with dresses, they don't swamp the dress but add a little warmth and cover the shoulders. Yours looks wonderful on you.
